Desalination Onboard the Breezy Sea

The Breezy Sea is a Cape Islander Lobster Fishing boat acquired from Preston and Peter Wilcox of Grand Manan Island in New Brunswick. It was retrofitted for the Caribbean and sailed to La Gonave Island, Haiti, in December 2009 by Bob Colpitts and Charles McNair, both from New Brunswick. An arduous 5 week journey of hardship and determination. The boat arrived about 2 weeks before the devastating earthquake of 2010 and provided much needed service to the Hospital and the people of the village of Anse-au-Galet on La Gonave during this terrible time.

WISH recently received the Breezy Sea as a permanent part of its ministry. This is an incredibly important asset which brings critical supplies to the island while also providing a safe connection to the mainland. It is in good working order but needs ongoing parts and maintenance at a cost of $4,000 CDN a year.

In addition to the maintenance costs, this project includes purchasing a small desalination unit to install on the Breezy Sea. This will allow the boat to become an emergency response unit during times of crisis as well as providing a reliable water source for isolated villages along the coast. The cost for this is $13,000 CDN.
