Water For Schools
Access to clean water continues to be a challenge on the island of La Gonave. Despite its abundance, clean water is not always easily accessible, and is essential for maintaining good health and preventing the spread of disease. Children are especially vulnerable to illness and disease due to dirty water. Drilling wells is not always the solution for the coastal communities of La Gonave as the water is brackish. Water cisterns to collect water during rainy periods is an option, but this is expensive and still doesn’t provide clean drinking water.
Haiti WISH Canada is working to provide clean water to schools by providing water tanks to ensure that students have access to clean water while they are at school, which is crucial for their health and well-being.
The Program Manager for Water for Schools will evaluate the requests from local schools and the tanks will then be installed with clean water provided. Maintaining a relationship between the schools and the Water for Schools Program Manager is crucial to ensure that everything is functioning well. The Program Manager will regularly visit the schools and the tanks will be cleaned yearly at no cost to the schools.
