Water Delivery Program
A survey was given to 100 women in Anse-a-Galets asking about their needs and desires. The #1 response, by a large majority, was to have their own business.
Women in the community are often overlooked when it comes to business opportunities as studies show that women in developing countries lack access to financial capital and are often constrained by cultural factors. Studies also show that women reinvest their revenue in their community by caring for their immediate and extended family with investment in nutrition, health and education measures.
5 modified Electric Bikes have been given to Haiti WISH Canada to deliver potable water in the community of Anse-a-Galets. Women delivery operators provide the perfect solution with this green energy resource. The batteries are recharged through a solar system. The women will deliver water and ice quickly and easily on the bikes.
This project provides the access to a business and removes those cultural barriers so that women will have the opportunity to provide for their families. As the women gain customers and grow their business, they will increase their own revenue.
